Originally a Canadian tune, Whiskey Before Breakfast (or sometimes Whiskey For Breakfast) become popular in the States when it was included in a fiddle collection. Now it has become standard fair at all bluegrass jams. It’s melody falls into the category of back stepping tunes like Blackberry Blossom. As the melody wanders through the D major scale it happens to hint at more than a few chords. Sometimes these chords a substituted for cool bass walks but here you’ll find all the chords notated carefully. Like Angeline The Baker, this tune is a great introduction to playing in open D so in this arrangement you will find no capoing and playing in the key of C. That’s just silly.
(Beginning guitar tabs include a clear simple version of the melody as well as chord markings above. My tabs at this level are intended to be affordable, to the point, and no nonsense. Perfect for the beginner that wants a straightforward version of a classic melody or the intermediate to advanced player that wants to learn a melody but embellish it themselves. Some fiddle tunes are difficult enough that a beginning or even intermediate version is unavailable.)
