The Girl I Left Behind Me (Beginner)

The Girl I Left Behind Me has a very interesting provenance. The tune is possibly an English folk song dating back to the 1500’s but other conflicting sources states it wasn’t written until 1758 when a pair of English Admirals were observing the French Fleet. To further confuse the issue, the first published sheet music appears in Dublin, Ireland in 1791 leading some to think of the tune as having Irish origin. No matter the true origin, the song has had a long history in the United States most notably as a song of the Civil War. The arrangement here is a simple version of the melody perfect for decorating with your own unique ideas.

(Beginning guitar tabs include a clear simple version of the melody as well as chord markings above. My tabs at this level are intended to be affordable, to the point, and no nonsense. Perfect for the beginner that wants a straightforward version of a classic melody or the intermediate to advanced player that wants to learn a melody but embellish it themselves. Some fiddle tunes are difficult enough that a beginning or even intermediate version is unavailable.)
