Creating Fiddle Tune Variations: Cherokee Shuffle (Class 2)

When? Saturday, August 20th at 2:30-3:30 PM Eastern
Where? Virtually via Zoom.
Cost? $40

Join the very first Lessons with Marcel workshop with teacher Andy Hatfield on August 20th.

The workshop will focus on the popular tune “Cherokee Shuffle”. This tune is a variation of another written by Fiddler Tommy Jackson in the 1950’s based on the old-time tune called, “Lost Indian”. The melody is relatively simple, so it lends itself to embellishment. In the workshop we’ll talk through the arrangement as we create it!

Here’s what you’ll learn:
We’ll discuss the process of creating a good sounding arrangement using techniques like melodic variation, simplification, playing alternate phrases, embracing well-played mistakes, ornamentation, vocal phrasing, pickup notes, chromaticism, chord substitution, various right-hand techniques and playing what you “hear”.

At the end, you’ll get a PDF of the finished tab and access to a video performance of the arrangement for intermediate bluegrass and flatpicking guitarists.
